No more plastic straws at The Royal Hotel
8th February 2018
We'll be using plants instead of plastic straws
We think it’s only fair that we do everything possible to protect the beautiful region of North Devon that we call home. As a part of our initiative to reduce the way we harm the environment, we are proud to announce that there will be no more plastic straws at The Royal Hotel.
Being based in the beautiful town of Bideford we’re surrounded by nature, and we have to protect it. Our next step is to no longer purchase plastic straws as we have made a commitment to phasing them out.
Instead we will offer our guests compostable straws made from plants not plastic, from visionary packaging brand Vegware when our current stock runs out. We are also looking to reduce other single use plastics across every aspect of the hotel.
This is just a small part of what we could be doing, and we are working with all of the other Brend Hotels to help the environment. For instance, all food waste is collected and converted into electricity at a local power plant in Devon, and of course we have low energy LED lights.
Plus we have our own Environmental Action Plan, which is constantly reviewed and updated to make sure we’re doing everything we can.
