Exterior of the Royal Hotel in Bideford

Fall in love withThe Royal Hotel

The historic Royal Hotel offers Regency Charm and riverside views, making it the perfect setting for an escape to North Devon.

With parts of the hotel dating back to the 17th century, not only is it rich in history but has an atmosphere and character that is unique and memorable.
Many of the original features have been carefully preserved; the sensational Kinglsey Lounge still has its original pine paneling and a magnificent ornate ceiling, something that can also be found in our honeymoon suite The Kingsley Suite.

Situated just second from the Tarka Trail and with Instow, Westward Ho!, The Big Sheep and the coast path just a stone's throw away, there are plenty of things to keep you busy during your stay in Bideford.

The History

The Royal Hotel is known for its incredible history from starting as a Colonial House in 1688 to becoming Bideford's Jail in 1830 with parts of the prison cells that still stand today.

The hotel has preserved as much of the history as possible from unveiling the wooden parquet flooring in Palm Court to the incredible 335-year-old oak staircase.
